When i was talking to a friend in the US about Japanese sandwich, she laughed.
I was talking about Potato Salad Sandwich in Japan. I like its simple taste and soft texture with the bread. Then, I thought of why that is unavailable in the US. Is it because carbohydrates combo bad enough for the Americans? Like eating baked potato as the main dish and steamed vegetable as side dish? Or vege burger? you have that though.
Then, just other day, when I was preparing myself to drive to the factory 1hr away from my office, my subordinates(all women) fixed me up some sandwich. Well… this sandwich is Coleslaw sandwich. It tastes great though. You may think it is strange.
The food in Asia may be strange to you(but I prefer you say different), like making this white sauce for pasta, I added ham, instead of chicken which, other friend laughed at.
In Japan, there is Napolitan Spaghetti. Which is pasta with sliced green pepper, onion and some meat, sometimes sliced sausage, sometimes ham. Well… what is the sauce made of? it is Ketchup. (But all mixed up when cooked.)
Yep, I hear you saw “eww..”
But think about it, who really defines food? Original maker of the dish? I can’t think so any more. Americans destroyed sushi and eat it like its so delicious and delicate. But who adds cheese and fries sushi?
So, think globally on definition of how food should be, because there is no right definition or recipe how to create the right food. People see things differently and cook differently. Food can be as delicate as talking about culture of people.
As for my personal preference, when i make tuna helper I add an extra can of Tuna. What’s your dinner today?
